The Ice Featured in KC Star Neighborhood News

12.02.2009

The Ice was profiled in the Kansas City Star Neighborhood News section on Wednesday, December 2nd.

From the article:

"Sunny fall days haven't kept moms, dads, and kids away from the ice skating rink at Park Place in Leawood, which openened for its second season in mid-November.

When the ice rink, Ice at Park Place, opened for the first time a year ago, it attracted more than 16,000 skaters.

In the past two weeks, several skaters have already graced the ice in colorful garb.  Crowds have also gathered at nearby restaurants for  gourmet hot chocolate and specialty coffees.  The ice skating rink's popularity doesn't come to a surprise to the shopping district's developers.

"Ice skating is very wholesome family fun," said Jeffrey Alpert, co-developer of Park Place.  "It's the kind of thing people in Johnson County are always looking for."

He is pleased at the response to the ice skating rink.

"Last season really exceeded our expectations," he said.  "The weather hasn't been cooperating as well as it could but that hasn't kept people away.  We just had a great Thanksgiving weekend."
